When I started as a senior research associate for Boyden Executive Search in Singapore, back about almost a decade ago, I had to deal with my fair share of badly trained, borderline hostile or completely incompetent receptionists and executive admins. They would never attend to the guests, would be inward facing and only focusing on internal customers. They would not handle phone requests with courtesy, would not follow up. I always wondered, why would a company have someone that is the window to its outside world and that provides a first glimpse at its values and culture be a turnoff?
